Ricky Reina (1992/93)

The word ‘legend’ is bound to crop up fairly frequently throughout  this round-up and Enrique Reina Igglesia surely deserves to be among the first to be handed that ‘label’ as far as Folkestone Invicta is concerned.

Dover Athletic chairman John Husk once asked me what Rick was all about.

“John, mate”, I said, “Ricky’s never got a clue what he’s going to do till he’s done it so how on earth can any poor defender try to guess!”

Memorably, while on trial at West Ham, Rick told a pal “We did sprints in pairs at training today. I was with some little bloke who said he’d just come from Everton for a million quid – but I’m not sure I believe him.”

That player was Tony Cottee, but Ricky had probably never heard of him anyway.

Rick would run through brickwalls if you asked him, and sometimes when you didn’t.

An incredibly genuine guy with a great sense of humour and now a successful local businessman,
