Working for the same team - Invicta's Commercial Consultant Cliff Egan and Red Dragon MD Gareth Hurford-Jones.

In football terms, you might say that Red Dragon I.T. Ltd have stormed up the leagues in the 10 seasons since the company was started, with their sights always firmly set on reaching the Premiership. From small beginnings as a part-time Web Design business comprising of present Managing Gareth Hurford-Jones plus fellow Director Andy Sillwood to a flourishing 14-strong outfit now based at 2 Station Road, Lyminge.

Red Dragon I.T. first came into contact with Folkestone Invicta a few years back, initially supplying computers and setting up an email network for the football club during former chairman Lynn Woods’ period in control. Recently – in the last few months, they have designed a new website for Invicta and provided much-needed back-up in terms of administration and advice to the club’s volunteer team of contributors.

A passionate Welshman and rally car driver, Gareth moved to the South-East some 12 years ago to be nearer his work as I.T. project manager for a very large banking group; in 2005 after meeting his wife Lyle, who already had a successful podiatry practice in Lyminge, they combined their business acumen and started by setting up Red Dragon I.T Ltd in their present premises at Station Road in Lyminge.

At first Red Dragon shared the large ground floor premises at the rear Lyle’s clinic but due to the rapid growth of the business, and increase in staffing, lack of space became an issue. However, in 2012 the opportunity arose to buy the large property next door and 15 months later Red Dragon now has the whole of the ground floor of 2 Station Road, Lyle has moved her podiatry & osteopathy clinic and her 5 staff next door overlooking the garden, but together they also now have a commercial bakery, farm shop/deli, animal feed store, a leased property currently an antique shop and two two-bed flats next door at Pendragon House, 4 Station Road! As you can tell they take special pride in being involved with their local community, businesses and organisations.

One of Red Dragon’s longest associations is with the Aspinall Foundation where they have been providing I.T. support for Port Lympne and Howletts Wildlife Parks successfully for many years, this has not always been easy due to the large areas to be covered, the complexity and size of the network and the nature of the terrain where line of sight is an issue. All challenges which Gareth and his team have relished providing solutions for.

Whilst specialising in website design, creation and maintenance they also provide I.T. support and service for businesses of all sizes - “We are happy to work with everyone from a sole trader to medium size businesses with 400+ users and we use Microsoft, Apple and Linux”, Gareth told folkestoneinvictafc.co.uk

As well as websites and I.T. Red Dragon specialises in VOIP phone systems, CCTV systems and digital media projects. – as Gareth said: “The nature of the I.T. business means that we can take work from almost anywhere we just need a fast reliable Internet connection; currently some of our other local clients include popular motorsport venue Lydden Hill Circuit, international equestrian show jumper Guy Williams from Stelling Minnis, and Sittingbourne-based European rally-cross driver Liam Doran. Being based here in Lyminge also means we can employ local people within our organisation an issue that we feel quite strongly about.

The Hub - Red Dragon now have 14 staff based at the Lyminge HQ
