A well taken goal from Ben Greenhalgh midway through the first and a more than slightly debateable penalty at a similar stage of the second period saw a good Dartford side take home their first piece of silverware for this season as they beat Folkestone 2-0 at The Fullicks Stadium in the Sid Burvill Memorial match on Saturday.

Striker Harry Ottaway made his first appearance in an Invicta shirt and showed some clever touches, but he had found himself up against a very strong defence on the day.

Darts’ bosses Adam Flanagan and Jamie Coyle both know a fair bit about that aspect of the game and in the likes of skipper Tom Bonner and his colleagues they have assembled a powerful backline which should stand their side in good stead in the coming National League South season.

Ever lively Kieron McCann got the votes of the Burvill family as Invicta’s man of the match though keeper Nick Shaw could not have been far behind him. With first choice Tim Roberts unavailable, Shaw again showed what an excellent standby he can be when called on.

The visitors would have been three or four goals to the good but for Nick’s heroics and that appears one department that Invicta boss has few worries as their Bostik Premier season grows closer by the day.

As with several of our visitors from the higher levels of non-league, Dartford were able to field almost a different side in the second half and while not showing quite so much attacking intent their lead never looked seriously troubled, despite the lively McCann, Ade Yusuff, sub Johan Ter Horst and young striker Alfie Paxman.

It goes without saying that we thank Bernie and Sue and the rest of the Burvill family for their continued support of this annual fixture, as well as thanking our visitors and a good number of their supporters who made the trip down to the coast despite well reported travel difficulties over one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year.
