Invicta take the lead as Jerson dos Santos squares the ball across for Ade Yusuff to tuck it into an empty goal ten minutes before the half-time break. Pics by Dave Shackle

Folkestone Invicta made a more an satisfactory start to their pre-season programme in a 1-1 draw against a strong Gillingham squad at The Fullicks Stadium.

Never over-awed by their opponents, Invicta took the lead on 35 minutes when ex-Hythe Town striker Jerson Dos Santos crossed from the left for Ade Yusuff to tuck the ball home.

With both sides making changes, the Gills took the game to their hosts in the second period and, in probably their best spell of the match, equalised through Connor Wilkinson with a shot from the edge of the box 11 minutes into the second period.

The visitors went closest to finding a winner when they hit the angle of post and bar some 15 minutes from time.

With so many thoughts thousands of miles away, this was a good first workout for Invicta and manager Neil Cugley will not have been disappointed to see former player of the year Phil Starkey come through his comeback after so long, with a comfortable display at the back.
