TOP OF THE LEAGUE - WE'RE HAVING A LAUGH YET AGAIN!

HARROW BOROUGH 0

FOLKESTONE INVICTA 3

Please tell our excellent Club Shop manager Geoff Senior to get those t-shirts out again. It may only last a few days, but at this moment, Folkestone Invicta are top of the Bostik League Premier Division.

Two second half goals from leading scorer Ade Yusuff and another late strike by Joe Taylor took Invicta into pole position as trouble hit Dulwich Hamlet and our Kent rivals Margate both only drew on the day.

The bookies’ title favourites Billericay Town’s home game with Staines Town was washed out, which means they have no fewer than seven games in hand on the new league leaders – pause while we repeat that – the new league leaders.

Rare

But how will the Essex side fare as they try to pack in 16 Premier Division matches and a couple of cup-ties between now and the end of April?

This was a rare success for Neil Cugley’s teams at the Rogers Family (Earlsmead) Stadium, but the result was never really in doubt.

The visitors were on top even as the first half ended goalless and saw Borough have a goal ruled out in the opening seconds after the restart.

But Yusuff (pictured) fired Folkestone in front from a 55th minute penalty and added a second – his 25th and 26th goals of his debut season for the club.

And substitute Joe Taylor, who had replaced Ian Draycott ten minutes before the break, grabbed another late strike to extend his own goalscoring streak.

Secure (?)

Folkestone now have nine league fixtures left, and are beginning to look increasingly secure in the play-off places, with five of those nine at home.

Billericay could knock Invicta off top spot if they win at Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday but their form has been, to coin a phrase, ‘Nothing to write home about’ of late.

These three goals also strengthened the Fullicks Stadium outfit’s position as leading scorers in the division with 83 from 37 games (2.25 per game!!)

Next however comes Wednesday evening’s Kent Reliance Senior Cup Semi-Final against Charlton Athletic at Cheriton Road, and hopefully then the final (against Maidstone, venue to be decided).

Plus one or two play-off ties??!!
