Folkestone Invicta moved four points clear at the top of the returned to the top of the BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division as they came back from being 2-1 down at half time to win 4-2 at home to Cheshunt at the BuildKent Stadium on Tuesday night.

Strikers Ira Jackson and Jerson Dos Santos scored the home side’s first two goals before full backs Josh Vincent and Alfie Paxman added the final two.

After opening the scoring with a beauty from Jackson, Invicta were then rocked by two goals in a three-minute spell that saw the visitors ahead at half time. But the home side was to score three further goals in a 17-minute second half spell to claim another three points.

Invicta kept the same starting X1 that had won its previous two fixtures against Brightlingsea Regent and Corinthian-Casuals, with new signing Stephen Smith coming on as a second half substitute to make his home debut having also come on at Corinthian-Casuals on Saturday.

A 14th minute Kieron McCann shot was blocked for the game’s first corner after Ronnie Dolan had played the ball up to Josh Vincent inside the penalty area.  McCann was making his 100th starting appearance for the club since joining Invicta from Sevenoaks Town during the summer of 2017.

Dos Santos then had a shot blocked for another corner two minutes later when Jackson broke from inside his own half and found his striking partner to his right.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Scott Heard played the ball out to JACKSON on the right hand side who hit a great finish across goal into the far corner of the net.  It was a superb way for Jackson to end a runoff six games without a goal after he had scored in five games prior to that barren run.

The visitors then had another scare a minute later when goalkeeper Harry Girling’s clearance hit Dos Santos and looked like rolling in but the goalkeeper managed to scurry back and the ball went past the post for a corner.

Cheshunt defender Ola Williams cleared from close to his line at the expense of a corner when Jackson drilled the ball across from the right hand side in the 32nd minute after Matt Newman had played the ball out of defence to Dos Santos.

But the visitors were to turn the first half around as they scored from their first two real chances.

Freddy MONCUR equalised in the 33rd minute when the ball deflected into his path after Afolabi Akinyemi had slipped the ball through to Sammy Collins.

Goalscorer Moncur is the son of former Swindon, Tottenham and West Ham player John.

Cheshunt then went ahead in the 35th minute when a looping ball into the Invicta penalty area was headed in by Mo CAMARA.

A 37th minute Camara throw in from the left hand side was then headed across the Invicta goal by visiting captain Mark Hughes but cleared.

A sign of the visitors’ growing confidence came at the end of first half stoppage time when Collins tried his luck from the half way line with a well-struck effort but did not catch out home goalkeeper Tim Roberts.

Heard shot wide of the target for Invicta in the 51st minute when strikers Jackson and Dos Santos combined.

It was 2-2 in the 58th minute when Heard turned provider again and DOS SANTOS took the ball on inside the penalty area before slotting it into the net from the left hand side.

Jackson then dipped a 66th minute free kick over the crossbar after he himself had been fouled when Dos Santos put him through.

Invicta restored their lead in the 68th minute as player-coach Micheal Everitt’s good ball put Dos Santos through but the striker took slightly too long and was dispossessed at the expense of a corner by central defender Sean Cronin.  McCann’s subsequent set piece from the left was met and converted by VINCENT at the far post.

The home side lost Newman to a 72nd minute leg injury as Fin O’Mara came on to partner Callum Davies at the heart of the home defence.

Cheshunt then gained their only corner of the night a minute later when an Akinyemi cross from the right was touched over by Roberts.

Invicta increased their lead to complete the scoring in the 74th minute when left back PAXMAN hit a sweet strike from outside the penalty area into the corner of the net after a move that had involved Heard, Dos Santos and McCann.  The goal had come moments after the visitors and manager Craig Edwards were adamant that Jackson had been offside.

Heard shot wide across goal when the ball fell to him on the right hand side in the 85th minute.

At the other end, Akinyemi was wide of the target when he didn’t connect properly with his 88th minute volley.

A 90th minute Jackson shot was charged down when McCann’s follow up was blocked and new boy Smith didn’t connect properly after McCann’s stoppage time ball from the right hand side.

Akinyemi then got a shot in across goal that Roberts clawed away after Moncur, substitute Joe Re and Collins had worked the ball from right to left.

A final home chance saw Heard’s good ball in from the right just evade substitute Johan Ter Horst at the far post in a move started by Jackson.

There were bookings for Invicta’s Everitt (78thminute foul) and for Cheshunt’s Collins (40th minute foul on Paxman), Cronin (58th minute foul on Heard in the build up to Dos Santos’ equaliser), Hughes (62nd minute foul on Dos Santos), Taylor McKenzie (65th minute foul on Jackson) and Re (stoppage time foul on Everitt).
