Still Folkestone’s top all-time goalscorer and a previous record appearances holder to boot. The long-haired Jim – James to some – came up through our youth teams as a wide midfielder with an eye for goal but became one of the most feared strikers at our level after taking over the number nine shirt. Dovorians will argue for ever that Jimmy D was one of theirs, but he made his name with us and played only relatively briefly for the Crabble outfit. His popularity with the fans at the peak of his career is underlined by these three supporters POY awards – no-one else has so far won it more than once! Scored some cracking goals for us – his partnership with Allan Tait was quite outstanding. My favourite Dryden goal came in the 99th minute of an FA Cup tie against Ramsgate at Cheriton Road which we won by that goal when Jim was caught by the camera of my good friend Andy Jones of the Herald whirling his shirt above his head – much to the annoyance of rival boss Jimmy Ward, who was literally seething in the away dugout!! |
