Disability team reports 16/17

Challenge Claude Thiriot 38

Folkestone Invicta DFC travelled to Calais for the tournament run by the Rotary club of Calais.
Invicta had an 11aside team and 7aside team in the the relevant competitions .

The 11 aside team lost there opening Fixture 3-2 after leading against the French champions . However in there next fixture they were reduced to 9men with a player suffering a dislocated shoulder then having a player sent off for a hard challenge after a fracas which saw French players throwing punches and not even getting booked . Invicta won 3-0 they followed this with a 3-2 win with 9 men and a 3-0 win in the semi final saw them reach the final . The organisers decided to allow Invicta bring two players up from there 7aside team to make there show piece final . But as the teams lined up the French champions complained and Invicta were told they would start the final with a 1-0 deficit to Invicta's annoyance . Invicta pulled off a 1-0 win in the final . But lost 3-2 on penalties . As usual it was embarrassing watching these events unfold .
The 7aside team won 4-0 7-2 and lost 3-2 in there group games . They got to the semi losing 5-1 to Lens .
In the 3rd 4th play off they won 3-0 against the team they lost to in there group to take third . Outstanding performances from both teams despite the hardship.

Man of tournament for A team Damian Barnett

Folkestone Invicta failed to win the Belgium tournament this season in Barmy conditions which sure a temperature of 30 degrees the A Team finished 5th despite only losing 1 game . The B team finished 8th but had some poor refereeing decisions go against them .
The A team drew there opening two games winning there third and drawing there fourth losing to the eventual winners Daring Brugge 1-0 despite having the better of the game .
In the 5th -6th play off. They won 3-1 with A hatrick from Damian Barnett.
The B Team lost 4-0 in the play off but had a good win against Stropkes 1-0 . This side had a few new players which gained first time European experience. B team Man of the Tournament Andy Jones

The tournament was well organised as usual. I would like to thank Roger de Haan charitable trust , Loraine Humm , Ron and Trudy Chitty for there support . Eckfords Travel for taking us .

Folkestone Invicta Disability FC 4-4 South Willesborough
Willesborough started brightly forcing invicta to defend well while Invicta countered on the break . It was the visitors who took the lead when they broke the offside trap and found the corner of the net . However Invicta were soon level when Laine Yeomans long throw found James Sheppard at the far post to fire home . Willesborough forced several corners but Lee and Barnett cleared well . Then from another Willesborough went ahead when a fine volley from the edge of the box found the roof of the net .
Invicta started to win more ball in midfield but struggled to find momentum until Jamie Thornton found Connor West and he fed Elliot Symonds on the right and he equalised . Wayne Froud made two fine saves to make sure the scores were level at the break .
Invicta came out second half quicker and When Yeomans found the ball on the right he beat his man and fired past the keeper to put Invicta in front . He then repeated the same move with the same result to double the lead .Willesborough never gave up and pulled one back . Then an optimistic strike cannoned off the post via Frouds hand and levelled the scores again . Yeomans then received the ball on the run and was brought down in the box . He stepped up and took his penalty which was well saved . This was the last chance of the game . Invicta rued there missed chance of winning in an even game .

Woodchurch 3-1 Folkestone Invicta DFC
Invicta started there final league game with confidence passing well for the first 15minutes but not creating a good chance .
Woodchurch forced a good save from Keeper Wayne Froud and started to get on top in midfield . Woodchurch took the lead on the half hour when a right wing cross was headed home at the far post .
It was 2-0 when a free kick was flicked home at the near post right on half time .
Invicta started the second half well with Connor West sending Laine Yeomans clear only for him to strike over the bar . Yeomans then forced a good save out of the keeper . Good work between Lee Baker and James Sheppard set Laine Yeomans only for him to be cynically fouled .
Against the run of play Woodchurch got a third goal a strike from the edge of the box .
Lee Avery then had a header cleared off the line as Invicta pressed . After Ryhs Haywood was fouled the free kick just avoided everyone at the far post .
Invicta finally got a goal when Jason Hughes free kick went into the box and with Haywood and Barnett going for it the ball fell to John Thornton to fire home .
That was it as the whistle went after the restart . Had Invicta had scored at 2-0 they may have taken something from this game . It was good to see a descent crowd watching as well.

Folkestone Invicta Disability FC took a team to Southall west London for the London Tigers Tournament where they were Victorious . Playing Victory Hants , Basildon Soccability and Cymru Devils twice in group matches . Not losing a game before defeating Cymru Devils 5-2 in the Final with Goals From Elliot Symonds 3, Luke Harrison 2, .
Elliot Symonds finished top scorer with 15 and got player of the tournament , goalkeeper Wayne Froud took the keeper of the tournament award . Special mention to Ryhs Haywood who scored all four goals in a group match with Victory Hants.team man of the tournament went to Jake Harrison

Smeeth & Brabourne 3-4 Folkestone Invicta DFC
Smeeth started the better but could not get through a well drilled Midfield and defence . Once Invicta got the ball moving quicker they got on top and only good saves from the Smeeth goalkeeper kept them in it . Good work between Lee Baker and Jamie Thornton set Connor West through who made it 1-0 . Invicta were creating chances with there pace but were pegged back just before half time when sloppy defending saw the ball given away with Smeeth equalising from close range.
Smeeth came out for the second half the better and Wayne Froud made a great save . But he could not stop Smeeth taking the lead when they broke with the ball rolling agonisingly into the corner . With Holmes forced off Invicta switched to a back four with Kieran Bartlett superb at the back alongside Jake Field .
Invicta got control back when Laine Yeomans received the ball out wide leaving his man behind before chipping the keeper to make it all square . Five minutes later Yeomans broke away again with his pace a major factor beating his man before firing home inside the near post . Yeomans James Sheppard combined to set up Connor West who volleyed home from the edge of the box to make it 4-2 . Smeeth pulled back a late consolation with the ball going through a crowded box and beating Jordan Head on the post . Good defending from Joshua Sheppard kept them out as we headed towards time .
Smeeth had one last effort in Vain as the whistle went .
Another good away win on a good pitch for Invicta .

South Willesborough  Warriors  4-10 Folkestone Invicta Disability FC

Invicta got back to winning ways after  a heavy defeat to Bromley Green .
Invicta started brightly with Connor West going close before Willesborough  took the lead when a poor back header was chased down and fired home .
Invicta were back on level terms when Callum Gardner rose to head home a corner . Invicta again were caught on the break but despite Wayne Froud saving the first shot the rebound was fired home .
Good work between James Sheppard and Jamie Thornton put Connor West through and he equalised .
Willesborough then scored again when they broke away and despite appeals for a foul on defender Lee Avery the goal stood .However Connor West repeated his last move to again level the scores before completing his hatrick putting Invicta ahead . Willesborough just before half time levelled from a corner .
The second half started well for Invicta as a good move starting at left back with Liam Holmes with one touch passing between Thornton ,West and James Sheppard who scored . A similar move down the left saw Conner West cross for Elliot Symonds to score . Lee Baker added a seventh finding space in the box and firing home . Jamie Thornton made it eight getting on the end of a cross to fire home at the far post .Conner West Scored the ninth from close range and added a Tenth from thirty yards out the goal of the game .At the other end Wayne Froud made some good saves while the back four kept it tight .Rhys Haywood and MAn of the match West forced good saves out of the home Keeper .Before the final Whistle .

Rolvenden Res 2-3 Folkestone Invicta Disability FC
Invicta travelled to the countryside with only the bare eleven and came away with an impressive win .
Rolvenden started brightly forcing some good defending from Jason Hughes Liam Holmes and Callum Gardiner . Geraint Wilson saved well from a break .
Good work in Midfield between Jamie  Thornton John Thornton and Laine Yeomans set Connor West through and he put Invicta Ahead .
Rolvenden pushed forward but found Wayne Froud and Jordan Head Stopping there runs . Josh Sheppard cleared well under pressure .
Wilson Tipped over a Rolvenden free kick . Rolvenden were then caught square Gardner's through ball saw Yeomans go close before from a similar move Invicta doubled there lead West again finishing well .
Rolvenden got back in the game just before half time when Hughes was outpaced and the ball was fired into the corner .
The second half began with Rolvenden searching for an equaliser it eventually came when Holmes tripped a forward in the box and they fired home from the spot . Both teams had chances West was close with a bicycle kick and Yeomans went close .
Wilson saved at the feet of a forward . As Rolvenden pushed Invicta struck on the break with West firing home his hatrick goal . Rolvenden forced a corner in stoppage time and from the cross Wilson arched to tip over a fine header . As Invicta cleared the Whistle blew.
This was a great performance with players coming in after only one training session but the teamwork they did you would of thought they played every week together.

Folkestone Invicta DFC 3-3 Hythe Grovellers
A lively Shepway Derby played in great spirit saw a share of the spoils .
Hythe started better and created a couple of chances which saw Wayne Froud make a couple of good saves and Lee Avery and Damian Barnett clearing well .
Invicta were dangerous on the counter With Laine Yeomans going close .
Hythe took the lead when Invicta failed to clear with a fine finish from the angle . The lead lasted not long . Invicta pushed forward and from Yeomans long throw Jamie Thornton headed the equaliser . Invicta had a great chance to go ahead when Steve Hirst was fed by Yeomans whose shot came back of the keeper and defender .
Hythe started well again second half with good work from man of the match John Thornton breaking up play .Invicta caught Hythe on the counter and a good move down the left involving Both Thorntons saw Yeomans cross for Elliot Symonds to fire home to give Invicta the lead . Laine Yeomans then hit the bar after being put through by Lorne Maclenan.
Hythe equalised when Arron Cook went on a solo run and fired home from the edge of the box.
Maclenan then found Laine Yeomans  in space and he made no mistake firing Invicta in front . Both Tom Paton in the Hythe goal and Wayne Froud in the Invicta produced good saves . Hythe drew level when Arron cook headed in a free kick . Both teams had chances to win it . But in the end a draw was well earnt by both teams .

Biddenden 2-7 Folkestone Invicta DFC
At a foggy Gordon Jones Field Invicta completed a double . Laine Yoemans opened the scoring when he broke away and slotted home via both posts. The hosts pulled a goal back with a fine strike from the edge of the box . Then they took the lead when they got a penalty for a harsh handball. Invicta levelled when good work by Laine Yoemans and Jamie Thornton set up James Sheppard to score .
Second half saw Invicta on top and Tom Chambers put Laine Yeomans through for his second goal . James Sheppard added his second on another fast break . An injury to Tom Chambers marred the performance as Invicta added a fifth when Liam Holmes volleyed home from the edge of the box . Biddenden tried to get back in the game but Steve Hirst ,John Thornton, Holmes and Jordan Head defended well . Jamie Thornton lead the counter and sent Laine Yeomans away to complete his hatrick and James Sheppard completed his after linking with Tom Oshaunessy. Ryhs Haywood had some chances near the end after good work from James Willis .
This was a good performance from a team that had four changes from the last game . Shows that the whole squad are capable of doing well when needed in different positions.

Folkestone Invicta Disability FC 1-4 Ashford Athletic Res
Invicta entertained the league leaders  and put up a good show despite losing .
Invicta stunned Ashford when a through ball found Charlie Barnard and he put the hosts in front . Within five minutes Ashford were level when they squeezed the ball home . Barnard and James Sheppard both had chances to put Invicta in front with the ball going agonisingly past the post . Ashford had chances to as Lee Avery , Peter Lee and Jason Hughes clearing well under pressure. Ashford took the lead when Invicta failed to clear a corner and the ball was headed home .
Ashford had the better of the exchanges . Though Invicta' s Barnard was always a threat . Ashford went further ahead on the break following a fine cross .
Invicta sub Damian Barnett hit the bar with a free kick and Barnard failed to fire home the rebound .Ashford' s fourth came when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box and a shot was deflected into the net .
Invicta still pressed Stephen Jenner went close and Sam Hoaen had a header cleared off the line before time .
Despite the defeat Invicta showed that they can compete with the better teams and that they should not be underestimated .

Folkestone Invicta Disability FC 5-3 Woodchurch
Invicta started on the front foot with Sam Hoaen going close and Charlie Barnard forcing a good save . At the other end good defending kept invicta level . Woodchurch caught Invicta square to open the scoring on the break . It didn't last long as a defender headed into his own goal from a corner under pressure from John Thornton . Elliot Symonds then set up Charlie Barnard to put Invicta in front . Woodchurch got a free kick and when Wayne Froud failed to hold it . The striker tapped home the equaliser . Woodchurch went ahead when Lee Avery clipped a forward in the box and Woodchurch scored from the spot which was just before half time.
Invicta came out quick second half pushing Woodchurch back and when a blocked shot rebounded to Jason Hughes in the centre circle he volleyed home from fully 40yards to equalise . Avery , Hughes and Lee all cleared shots and Kane Malyon blocking well . Invicta caught Woodchurch on the counter Symonds played in Sam Hoaen who beat two defenders and slotted in a fourth for Invicta . Peter Lee cleared off the line at the other end with Lorne Mclenan getting in good challenges and sending Invicta forward .
Elliot Symonds shot at goal was blocked and fell for James Sheppard onside who fired in the fifth .
Invicta 's defence held firm with Man of the match Wayne Froud making some quality saves when needed. Ryhs Haywood went close for invicta before time.

Folkestone Invicta Disability FC 8-3 Biddenden Juniors 
Invicta produced a stunning first half performance opening the scoring on two minutes through recent signing Jamie Andrews who linked well down the left before firing home . 
Charlie Ballard added the second a few minutes later . He got his second following good work between the Elliot Symonds and Jamie Andrews . Then a fine move from the back saw 9 passes exchanged before Jamie Andrew fired home . Elliot Symonds then hit a quick fire double to make it 6-0 at half time . 
To Biddenden s credit they kept going and were rewarded by pulling a goal back after Invicta got caught on the break . They added a second after sloppy passing gave the forward a run on goal . 
Invicta added a seventh when a cross from the left was headed past his own goalkeeper by a Biddenden defender . Biddenden were not finished when they got a fine third with a forward riding three challenges before slotting home . Barnard and Rhys Haywood had good chances but couldn't find the net . When Sam Hoaen was found down the left he beat his man before pulling the ball back for Alex Scott to fire home.
