Charlton Athletic Ability Counts 0-9 Folkestone Invicta DFC

Invicta warmed up for next weeks semi final with a stylish second half display of high tempo football. To be fair to Charlton they were the better side for the first fifteen  minutes and keeper Wayne Froud had to produce a fine double save to keep the scores level .Invicta struggled as they were getting caught in possesion in midfield causing the defence to be put under pressure . Forward James Lefevre suffered a broken leg in a 50/50 chalenge in which the Addicks defender injured his foot to. Invicta found the break through on the half hour mark when Billee Hayters corner was headed back across goal and Lee Avery touched the ball home. With two minutes to go to half time Stewart Law put Jordan Head in behind and he was bundled over for a penalty which Billee Hayter fired home. A minute later Luke Harrison went clear and added a third for Invicta. With the first half being a bit lackluster a few changes were made and the Tempo was increased Invicta were passing the ball better and quicker . Lee Avery added a fourth goal from close range Luke Harrison hit the bar twice before he found the net after fine work from Jamie Haymes . Peter Lee put Kane Maylon down the right his pin point cross was turned in for the sixth by an Addicks defender . Stewart Law then put Jordan Head in down the right and from a tight angle he found the top corner of the net for the seventh .Good passing between Lee Avery and Billee Hayter  set up Damian Barnett to fire home from the edge of the box . Lee Avery then completed his hatrick after being set up by Luke Harrison from Steve Lakes pass. When Charlton did push forward Carl Chapman Peter Lee covered superbly. Both Marc Gilbert and Chris Turner also done well despite playing out of position second half. Valliants worked hard from the start causing Invicta problems on the break and was no surprise when they took the lead .Malyon was outpaced and when the ball came to the edge of the box the Valliants striker fired into the top corner. This kicked Invicta into life and James Willis forced a good save from the keeper after good work between Elliot Symonds and Troy Harding.Invicta were level when Luke Harrison Headed home from a Symonds cross . Invicta then turned up the tempo and Harding and Symonds exchanged passes and Symonds fired home .John Thornton then forced the keeper into a fine save. Valliants were still trying to catch Invicta on the Break and David Warde Nsimba Lupepe and Marc Gilbert all made good tackles.Invicta added a third when Luke Harrison 's cross was turned home by a Valiants player . Valliant's pulled back a goal .then Symonds added a fourth after a fine run. The fifth came when Troy Hardings pass found James Willis who was brought down in the box. Jamie Haymes was exceptional running down the right flank exchanging passes with Symonds and Wilson before shooting wide .Reece Grist was winning ball in the middle feeding Haymes and he was causing problems. Troy Harding was causing problems on the left and one of his crosses was headed against the bar by Wilson with the keeper beaten. Symonds also had chances to complete his hatrick but failed to connect .Chris Turner and Harding linked and Harding's shot flew wide from a deflection.Valliants third came when Chapman was caught out and the pass found its way into the net from a valliants striker. Invicta's seventh undoubtedly the goal of the game came when John Thornton picked the ball up thirty yards out and travelled ten yards before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the top corner.Valliants still had time to score again when Malyon Gilbert and Don Reidy Williams failed to clear despite having chances to and Valliants striker finished calmly. Invicta carried on there good form with a good passing display .Invicta came out of the blocks fast causing problems on both flanks with Jordan Head ,Elliot Symonds and Lee Avery on the over lap getting crosses though the Stones keeper dealt with them .though Invicta kept up the pressure and took the lead when Stewart Law and Jordan Head played a one two and jordan Head looped his shot over the keeper.Invicta kept up the pressure moving the ball around from left to right.Law was then provider as he squared for Troy Harding to fire home Invicta's second. The Stones had chance to get back into the game when a through ball beat the Invicta defence and was fired wide.An even better chance came when Invicta goalkeeper James Lefevre handled outside the box and was cautioned but the free kick was fired into the wall. Invicta broke down field and when Elliot Symonds played the ball in John Thornton was hauled down in the box and Billee Hayter fired home the spot kick. Invicta got a fourth just before half time when Jordan Head and Troy Harding linked passes and Harding's cross shot was fired in to his own net by a Stones defender. Changes were made at half time as Jason Hughes went in Goal for the second half. Invicta kept the pressure on and got there reward when Stewart law pulled the ball back at the far post and Billee Hayter added his second goal of the game. However Invicta got caught out when a long ball over the defence seemed to be an easy catch for the keeper he got underneath it and spilt it for a Stones striker to fire home. This seemed to fire Invicta up and when Symonds, put Harding away down the right his cross was handled and Billee Hayter stepped up and scored from the spot to complete his hatrick. Charlton Athletic Deaf 0

Folkestone Invicta DFC 1

Invicta travelled to Bromley for this tough friendly with a squad missing several players.

But a good strong performance ensured a narrowd by deserved victory.

Folkestone started the stronger, passing the ball fluently with Symonds finding Hayter who shot wide. Invicta caused problems down both flanks with Symonds and Head getting in behind the Charlton defence, but the Addicks goalkeeper came to the rescue.

Charlton were quick on the break and Barnett and Lee had to clear their lines.

The visitors made the breakthrough when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box and the ball fell for stand-in midfielder Craig Harding to volley home.

They wasted a great chance to increase their lead when a good passing move between Craig Harding and  Billee Hayter set up Damian Barnett who fired over.

And in a similar move Barnett fired wide minutes later. Then Luke Harrison found space and his shot flew wide.

Charlton came out of the blocks strongly after the interval and put Invicta under pressure but Chapman and Gilbert defended well down the flanks and when called on keeper James Lefevre was quick off his line to repel any real danager.

Invicta gradually regained control game and good work by young James Willis put Troy Harding through but his final touch ran away from him.

When Troy Harding was put clear down the left by Willis his cross was perfect but Harrison failed to connect.

In the closing stages Symonds fired wide but Invicta comfortably held on for the victory

Invicta put in a stunning first half display in the Ryman Cup rehearsal at the Gallagher Stadium.

Despite going a goal down after 10 minutes Invicta struck back within a minute when Troy Harding raced clear to fire home.

Elliot Symonds broke down the right and fed Harding who got his second to give Invicta the lead.

A foul on Symonds saw a free-kick floated in and found Harding to complete his hat-trick.

James Lefevre then picked out Harding with a superb through ball and he added a fourth.

Maidstone pulled one goal back as Jordan Head was caught in possession and the square ball was hammered past Peter Lee.

But Symonds latched onto a fine throughball to fire home the fifth.

Good work between James Willis,  Harding and Symonds saw Harding scored his fifth goal and his side's sixth before the break when the visitors led 6-2.

Invicta made changes at half-time to give some of their lower ability players a chance and good chasing by Ash Griffith forced a foul 25 yards out which Damian Barnett curled into the top corner with the keeper static.

Symonds set up Thornton to add an eighth goal for the visitrs before the Stones produced a mini comeback scoring three times in ten minutes to cut the defiicit to three goals.

Folkestone completed the scoring when Geraint Wilson and Troy Harding linked to put Lee Avery through.

He was brought down in the box and Elliot struck the penalty home for 9-5.

Manager Geraint Wilson said: "This was a pleasing performance especially first half with the movement of the forwards and the quality of the passing.

"The second half was always going to be harder and some of the differences in ability showed but all the players worked hard and played their part in a very good win."

Folkestone Invicta DFC 0

Westwood FC 7

Invicta bowed out of the mainstream football competition but the scoreline slightly flattered their opponents.

The home side started well, stringing passes together and making Westwood work for possession.

When Westwood attacked Froud and Barnett stopped them in their tracks and Hughes produced one good early save..

At the other end. Harding fired over the bar.

But on 17 minutes a loose ball in midfield caught Invicta's defence square and Westwood broke through to open the scoring,

Folkestone tried to hit back right away and only a desperate last-ditch tackle stopped Harding equalising.

Westwood doubled their lead on the half hour but Harding broke through and was chopped down to earn Folkestone a penalty but Thornton's spot-kick was saved.

To add to Invicta's disappointment, Westwood broke again to score and led 3-0 at a third half time.

The second half started brightly for Invicta with Harding going close and Hayter just beaten to the ball by the keeper.

A series of injuries threw Folkestone's system a little and westwood capitalised scoring three more goals in quick succession to kill the game as a contest.

The away side added one more goal to their tally on the break and despite several more close things by the spirited Folkestone side, a flattering 7-0 remained the final scoreline.

Coach Geraint Wilson said: "To be fair Westwood were the stronger side, but injuries to key players when they were playing well did not help.

"I cannot fault the effort put in by our players in a very tough game."
